The Shelly Company Employees Support Local Charities
By Jamie Sturgeon, public relations specialist
This past holiday season, the combined efforts
of the Thornville and Findlay Division employees
raised more than $4,000 in cash and collected
enough food to fill more than six large boxes for
needy Ohio families.
The employee-driven Adopt-A-Family committees
have raised more than $25,000 and helped more
than 300 families since their commencement in
2003. The majority of fundraisers were held at
company-sponsored events such as open houses,
fall festivals, fishing days and annual meetings.
Typical fundraising activities included lotteries, back-to-school raffles, 50/50 raffles, duck derbies, bake
sales and luncheons.
Families to adopt were referred by the Franklin,
Fairfield, Muskingum and Perry County Children
Services; Care Train of Union County; Helping
Hands; Van Wert YWCA House; Lutheran Social
Services; Christian Clearing House and Thornville
Fire Department.
"Knowing that all of the hard work and monies raised
brightened the holiday season for several families
with a warm meal and/or presents for the children
made it all worth it," said Margie Snoke, Thornville
Division Adopt-A-Family committee founder.
