Shelly’s Locomotive Brings Santa to Town

Santa Visits Kent

Denny Krohn, manager of a Shelly Materials yard, and Bob Rohal, locomotive engineer for Shelly Materials, delivered Santa Claus to the Northeast Ohio town of Kent this past holiday season. Bob and his wife, Cathy, festively decorated Shelly's locomotive to deliver the jolly old elf to the annual Festival of Lights. This is the third year they have provided this service, and they have been asked to save Dec. 4, 2010, for Santa's return.

Lori Wemhoff, executive director of the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce, one of the event sponsors said, "The joy and excitement exhibited by all the children when the locomotive made that last turn before stopping at Main Street brought a tear to my eye."

When Bob isn’t transporting Santa, he uses the locomotive during shipping season to move up to 70 hopper cars, each filled with approximately 110 tons of limestone aggregate, at the Kent yard.
